My Caregiving Moment with Stacie Freeman

Finding Joy in Care: Stacie Freeman’s Caregiving Moment

At Learn2Care, we value the voices of caregivers who show us that meaningful care often begins with simple moments of connection.

We spoke with Stacie Freeman, a caregiver whose journey started long before she entered the professional caregiving field. Through years of supporting family members and individuals in her community, Stacie has learned that building relationships and understanding the people we care for can make all the difference.

Here is Stacie’s story, in her own words.

“Get to Know the Person You’re Caring For”

My caregiving experience originally began when I was a child. I spent time with my grandma and my great-aunt Grace, helping to keep them company and entertained.

Daily caregiving looked like playing games together. We would play rummy or Scrabble and spend time enjoying each other’s company.

One moment that has stayed with me was when my grandma’s blood pressure became very high. I remember having to decide what to do. I called my dad because he would know whether my grandma needed an ambulance or additional medical help.

What I remember most is the fun I had while overcoming the challenges that came with helping my grandma, my Aunt Grace, and others throughout the years.

If I could share one message with new caregivers, it would be this: get to know the person you’re caring for. Learn what he or she likes to do and understand their everyday activities. Taking the time to know the person can help build a stronger connection and make caregiving more meaningful for everyone involved.
