Providing care in home and community settings can be rewarding, but it can also expose workers to challenging situations involving violence, harassment, intimidation, discrimination, and threatening behavior. Alberta’s Occupational Health and Safety Code requires employers to develop violence and harassment prevention plans and ensure workers understand how to recognize risks, respond appropriately, seek assistance, and report concerns.
This course prepares home and community care workers to recognize workplace violence and harassment, understand their employer’s prevention program, respond safely to concerning situations, and participate in reporting and investigation processes. Through realistic scenarios drawn from home care environments, learners build confidence in protecting their own safety while maintaining professionalism, person-centred care, and appropriate boundaries.
