Understanding and Supporting Individuals with the Psychological Aspects of Aging

For caregivers in British Columbia, understanding these changes is especially important for supporting older adults’ independence, dignity, social connection, and ability to remain engaged in their communities. Caregivers will learn how to recognize normal age-related changes versus concerning symptoms, offer emotional support, reduce stigma, and adapt care approaches to promote autonomy and dignity. Drawing from evidence-based frameworks and aging-focused psychology research, this training equips caregivers with the tools to care for the whole person with compassion and professionalism. Informed by research from the American Psychological Association (APA), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the American Society on Aging (ASA), and AARP’s National Plan for Aging Well.
