Advance care planning allows individuals to communicate their healthcare preferences if they become unable to speak for themselves. In Idaho, advance directives and the Physician Orders for Scope of Treatment (POST) form help ensure those wishes are known and respected.
This course explains the differences between advance directives and POST forms, outlines the Direct Care Worker’s responsibilities, and provides guidance on recognizing these documents, following the participant’s care plan, communicating with supervisors, and documenting events appropriately. Through practical scenarios and knowledge checks, learners will build confidence in responding professionally while remaining within their role.

Certain responsibilities, including participant notification, organizational policies, assessment, care planning, and required documentation, belong to the provider, RN supervisor, or other authorized personnel.
