OHS Orientation for Home Care Workers: Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act and Code
This 45-minute training introduces home care workers to the core requirements of Alberta’s OHS legislation as it applies to community-based care. Learners will explore the Internal Responsibility System, recognize hazards unique to client homes, understand reporting and emergency procedures, and learn how to apply safe work practices while maintaining client dignity and autonomy.
The course uses real-world home care scenarios to build confidence in identifying hazards, knowing when and how to report concerns, understanding the right to refuse work involving an undue hazard, and balancing safety protocols with respectful, person-centered care.
