Body Changes with Age: Nervous System

The nervous system is the body’s communication highway. It controls movement, memory, emotions, balance, speech, and even safety awareness. However, as people age, this system becomes less efficient and slows down, resulting in changes in coordination and memory becoming more common. These changes can affect an older adult’s ability to move safely, communicate clearly, or respond to danger.

This course helps caregivers understand how the nervous system works and how to identify early signs of neurological changes such as confusion, slurred speech, or tremors. It provides practical, real-world guidance on supporting clients living with Dementia, Parkinson’s disease, stroke effects, or seizures. Through scenario-based learning and red flag reminders, caregivers will learn when and how to report concerns, promote safety, and provide calm, respectful support.

A special focus is placed on preserving dignity, supporting independence, and enhancing quality of life through restorative care and responsive communication. Whether a caregiver is helping someone walk after a stroke or gently guiding a confused client back to Routine, this course ensures they do so with confidence, empathy, and competence.
